Foster-U welcomes Connect With a Wish for a fully immersive college experience for their Champions. We will provide the youth with a meal in Kate and John Broderick Dining Commons followed by a College Tour that will be provided by our Future Monarch Center.
Join us as we walk Kaufman Mall and become Champions for foster care! This event is free and open to the public. We will have raffles & giveaways, food, and a children’s egg hunt!
There will also be local child placement agencies out there for those who are interested in learning more about ways they can help foster youth in need. Registration for the walk is down below!

10:00 AM - Arrival & Registration
First 150 receive T-Shirt & National Foster Care Month Ribbon
10:15 AM- Opening Remarks (Melvin Roy, Founder of Foster-U)
10:30 AM- Walk
10:45 AM- Closing Remarks (John Murray, Executive Director of Families First Of Virginia)
11:00 AM-12:00 PM- Easter Egg Hunt, Pen a Birthday Note, Local Child Placement Agency Information Tables
We will also be joined by Old Dominion’s Stomp & Shake Team, Blue Diamonds and we will have a special appearance from Big Blue!
(Parking is in 49th Street Garage Near Stadium)
The Rain Location for this event will be the Student Recreation Center (10 AM-12 PM)
Join NAMI Coastal Virginia and Foster-U as we have a panel discussion surrounding Mental Health. We will have a diverse of adults represented who will attest to their experiences surrounding Mental Health.

Foster-U will be hosting the Girl Scouts of Colonial Coast and providing the girls with a tour of ODU’s Campus and providing them with a fully immersive experience.
We will also be helping the Girl Scouts sell cookies to our Fellow Monarchs.
Join Foster-U to gain a deeper understanding of the foster care system and the realities of youth in foster care. We will also be welcoming the Executive Director of CHKD’S Child Abuse Program, Mrs. Erinn Portnoy to discuss Childhood Trauma and the effects it has on development.
